High School Art Show, Competition & Workshop Open for Sign-Up

     Waseca Arts Council is now seeking registrations for its annual High School Arts Show, Competition and Workshop Day for 2010.  Exhibition dates are March 29 – April 16 with the student workshop day on April 16th from 9:00 am till noon.   Again this year the workshop will be lead by WAC Executive Director, Patricia Beckmann, assisted by Education Specialist Allison Roberts.
      Each year the competition is judged and a critique presented by noted art historian, Deanna Bendix.    Small money awards plus honorable mention certificates are presented to deserving students.
     This High School art program is available to all public and parochial schools who register before February 15th.   Because of space limitations each school is limited to submitting one piece of art from no more than five students.   The work can be delivered to the Waseca Art Center between  Friday, March 19 till Saturday, March 27   It is requested that  no exceptionally large work  be entered and a variety of media is strongly encouraged, including student made videos.  
    All work with go home with the students at the close of the workshop on April 16.  There is no cost to the students or schools, however all students must attend the workshop.     
      The Waseca Art Center hours of operation are Tuesday – Friday 10 a.m. till 4:00 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. till 2:00 p.m.   It is located at 410 State Street North, in Waseca, Minnesota.   For more information consult the Arts Council’s website at

       The Waseca Arts Council, Inc. is a nonprofit organization.   Its mission is to provide the people of the greater Waseca County area opportunities to experience diverse creative arts essential to a healthy community.   A few of the Arts Council’s ongoing programs are:  The Waseca Art Center, the Picture Parade School Art Appreciation program, the Permanent Collection Monthly rotation, Drawing Group, Club Picasso, ArtNews newsletter and other projects. The public is invited to continue cultural programs in our area by supporting this event.  The Sights and Sounds of Christmas is the Waseca Arts Council’s most important fund raiser each year.
     The Waseca Arts Council is regularly supported by grants from Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council from funds appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature. The WAC is further supported by Waseca County, the City of Waseca, E.F. Johnson Foundation.  the Waseca Foundation, ADC Corporate Giving Program, and by contributing business and individual donors of the Waseca Arts Council, Inc.
     Some activities of this organization are made possible by a grant provided by the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council from general funds approved by the Minnesota State Legislature an d in part, by the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
